Dass eine Band in keine Schublade passt, wird schnell behauptet. Aber meist wird ein Genre lediglich verwässert oder mit einem exotischen Detail ausgeschmückt. Die sieben Musiker von Sur Les Docks aus Frankreich fühlen sich jedoch tatsächlich gleich in mehreren Schubladen zu Hause und spielen sich mit energiegeladenen Liedern, gute Laune verbreitend, durch ihr neues Album Good Day. Dabei mischen sie temporeich Traditionelles, würzen ihr Repertoire mit Rock- und Punk Folk und kreieren am Ende ihren ganz eigenen Stil, indem auch Platz für weichere Töne und Dreivierteltakt ist.

Bereits beim Einstieg in das Album mit Une Meche de tes cheveux zuckt es unweigerlich in den Gesichts-und Beinmuskeln. Still halten unmöglich. Es mag an dem treibendem und rhythmusangebendem Schlagzeug liegen, das jedem der 14 Lieder einen Rahmen gibt und sich dennoch wohltemperiert je nach Thema gekonnt zurücknimmt oder antreibt. So geschickt, dass der Übergang zum traditionellen Instrumentalstück The King of the Fairies gar nicht erst wahrgenommen wird. Dafür dann aber das rasante Geigenspiel von Graham Knibbs.

La Vage a l’Ame bringt fast nachdenkliche Töne, die sich mit warm gesetzten Harmonien im Kopf festsetzten, in La mouette Bossue schwebt eine tiefsinnige Möve im Dreivierteltakt durch den Hafen und in Port de pirates wird nach alten, längst vergessenen Traditionen gesucht. Wenn also überhaupt eine Klischee-Schublade, dann diejenige, die sich dem harten Leben der Hafenarbeiter und dem Leben auf und an der See widmet. Das alles jedoch in so flotten Rhythmen, dass der sich versteckt erhobene Zeigefinger zwischen den Zeilen nur am Rande wahrnehmen lässt. Vor allem dann, wenn man (wie ich) im Französischunterricht leider nicht so richtig aufgepasst hat. Dennoch hebt gerade die Tatsache, dass ein Großteil der Tracks in der Muttersprache der Band gesungen wird, das Album aus dem Pool bekannter Alben dieses Genres angenehm hervor.

Besonders auch der Track Captain Shish, indem die Musiker Guitch (Gesang, Gitarre), Ludo (Akkordeon), Alain (Gitarre), Graham (Geige), Pirrot (Flöte), Alex (Bass) und David (Schlagzeug) ihrem Manager Francis Carton, alias Capitain Shish, Respekt und Dank zollen. Dieser geht mit viel Schalk im Gepäck noch einmal ordentlich in die Beine und gibt das eine oder andere Detail über den treuen Begleiter preis. Très sympathique und ein gelungener Abschluss.

Wer einmal die Band live erlebt hat, weiß von der Energie und von der Spielfreude, die die sympathische Band mit auf die Bühne bringt. Ein besonderer Flair, der oftmals bei einer Studioproduktion verloren gehen kann. Sur Les Docks zeigt jedoch mit diesem Album nicht nur eine großartige musikalische Entwicklung, sondern auch, dass sie mit Leichtigkeit dieses gute Gefühl von Freiheit, Spaß und gute Laune ihrer schweißtreibenden Life Auftritte ebenso ungekürzt auf CD pressen können. Ein gelungenes Album, mit ausgezeichneten Musikern, prädestiniert dafür, sich mitreißen und entführen zu lassen. Charmant, vielfältig und unkommerziell mit einem Albumnamen, der Programm ist.

Ich für mich pfeife also auf Dopamin, Serotonin und all diese Glückshormone und lege mir bei Bedarf Good Day ein.  Schneller kann sich gute Laune gar nicht verbreiten. Wie heißt es dort so schön im Titelsong? „…I´m not angry, nothing annoys me, I want to say today is a good day! “

People claiming, you can’t stereotype or predict a Band. But usually, the Genre would only be adapted or spiced with some exotic elements. In Fact with their new Album Good Day, the seven musicians from Sure Les Docks from France are home in several different genres and playing off with energized Songs and bandying good mood. By doing so, they mixing faced-paced traditional, spicing their repertoire with Rock and Punk elements and creating their own style where is place even for smooth chimes, sometimes even in waltz time.
Even the entre to the Album ‘une Meche de tes cheveux’ leads unavoidable into convulsions of face- and leg muscles.   Keeping your continuance is simply impossible. It’s might be related to the rhythmic leading drum set, which is framing all 14 songs by supporting intense or smooth, the theme of the individual song. Such clever, a junction to the traditional instrumental song The King of the Fairies can’t be recognized in the first place. Therefor the dynamic violin part from Graham Knibbs calls for attention even more intensively.

La Vage a I’Ame is bringing in almost thoughtful chimes, which settling in the head with warm, meaningful harmonies. In La mouette Bassue hovering a refundable seagull in waltz time through the harbor as in Port de pirates they searching for old, forgotten traditions. If a cliché would fit, than this, which is dedicated to the hard live of dockworkers and the live at sea. All of that in such speedy rhythm, that the slightly wagging finger isn’t so obviously anymore. Especially if you haven’t paid enough attention within the French lessens in school (as I did). The fact that a major part of this Album made in their native language, is marking this Album as special within this genre.

Particularly the track Captain Shish , where the musicians Guitch (Vocals, Gitarre), Ludo (Accordeon), Alain (Gitarre), Graham (violin), Pirrot ( whistle) and David (drum set) paying their manager Francis Carton, alias Captain Shish, respect and gratefulness. Once again, the legs muscles will be stressed due this song with sly humor and a few details of their sound companion. Tres sympathique and a well finished.

Those, who experienced the Band live, knowing about their energy and musical enthusiasm which brought to stage. Studio productions can’t transmit that kind of flair quite often. Nevertheless Sur Le Docks shows with that Album once again a fabulous musically development, even more, that they can transfer their sense of freedom, fun and diaphoretic gigs uncurtailed on a CD. A successful Album, made by distinguished musicians, predestinated to hijack the audience with charm, diversity and predicting what the name implies. For myself, I give a damn about Dopamine, Serotonin and all this happiness hormones. If required, just playing Good day. Distributing good mood faster as that wouldn’t be possible. What’s it called in the theme song? “……I’m not angry, nothing annoys me, I want to say is a good day!”
