Was genau versteht ihr darunter?
Unser englischer Geigenspieler Graham arbeitet in drei Bands.
Was sind Eure Ziele in der Zukunft, was Eure neuen Projekte, Ideen?

In English
Those folks, who enjoying visiting Folk festivals in our neighbor countries, have surely recognized the French Band „Sur les Docks“. The seven musicians are on the road since several years and made her duty to provide professional music, dance and joy for there audience. Therefore they are providing an inspiring show, which is sudorific from first note for the band as it is for the audience. The Band is conventionalizing their style as „Maritime RAW Folk“, which is confusing at first sight. Beside rather sounding rendition Shanties, their Spectrum provides French ballads, fast renditions traditional,- rock and Punk Folk.
We appreciating very much, that the Band agreed to answer a few questions for us.
Would you please give our German fellows and those who don’t know you a short outline of your history? Who is who and which position he is assigned to?
The band „Sur Les Docks“ was formed in 2008. Most of the musicians were already playing in other bands. The home of the band is Dunkirk in Northern France. Sur les Docks currently consists of Drummer: David- Bass guitar : Alex – Guitar : Alain- Mandolin and lead vocals: Guitch – Accordion: Ludo- Fiddle : Graham, (our English member ) and Flute: Pierrot
You designate your music style by yourself as „Maritime RAW Folk“ I’m interpreting that as raw elementally and original Folk. What is your explanation or interpretation of this term?
Due to the origins of the band, our style of folk has a maritme, theme. „Raw“ represents the passion and energy in our style of playing.
It’s almost obviously many people can make up their mind about your Band Name; at least they will have their own interpretation. Does this Name have any deeper implication for you, as the direct translation would suggest?
Yes, the translation of „Sur les docks“ would be „On the docks“. Dunkerque, the home of the band, is one of the biggest trading port in the North of France. We sing about the hard lives of the dockers and life on the sea. (and some old story from Dunkerque’s port, the hard lives of the dockers.)
You are on the road a lot for playing on festivals or pubs in Belgium, France, Britain and Germany. Did you ever made a summation of hours which you spend just on highways….?
No, we really don’t think about the time it takes – travelling to the gigs is part of the adventure.
Honestly, it’s for sure an intensive live. Professionalism along with commercial success is only reachable with high scale off renunciation, courage and diligence. How much time you spend on professional duties and is there is any time left for personal issues…?
Some of us work all the week, so it’s sometimes difficult to rehearse and to plan for gigs. Usually we only accept gigs when all the musicians are available and their professional and family obligations allow it. We are fortunate that if necessary, we can call on the help of alternate bassist player Mike, fiddle player from Uk Gemma, and Vik whistle player.
In spite of all the time and hard work, on the stage you show on stage a brimful play and enjoyment of live. Are you also in such a good mood offstage??
Yes of course ! We are lucky that we all get on so well as a band – we are like a family !
The live performance you provide is always an experience. How important for you are live performances and what is the particular role for that compared to a CD production?
We are a live band – we love playing before an audience. Producing a good quality album in a studio is also a rewarding experience but it cannot be compared to performing on stage.
On your current music album „Rain of Whisky“ we’ll find traditional Folk as it’s contains cover version (and compositions of your own?). How do you create songs like that? Are all of you equal to decide how to do and what to do or is there a kind of „Band Leader“?
We like to play some traditional irish music and also sea shanties but we compose our own songs too. Generally the lyrics come from an idea of one musician, then we all work on the music together and create the song.
Is there any specific song, which encouraging you most? which is especially dear to you? If your answer is yes, which is the tale behind that?
I am sure that different members of the band have their own favourite songs but I think everyone in the band likes the song „Rostock – Roscoff “ which is the story of a long drive between Rostock in Germany to Roscoff in France. It explains our adventure and sums up the spirit of the band
By browsing through the Internet, we can find smartphone records of your gigs, quit often with a poor quality. In the meantime you produced professional videos, which are showing on an inspiring way your preparation and a collection of clips from some festivals. As a result of that, is there any DVD in the pipeline?
No DVD is planned at the moment – our aim is to continue to produce good quality videos when we have the opportunity
Staying at the theme Internet. Are you believe, that Bands had a harder live, before technologies like MP3, YouTube and I-Tunes came up?
Maybe life was harder for some of them – It’s really good to have the internet for watching videos, getting more information and learning more about bands you are going to see. It is also useful for communicating with people who might be interested in your band if they have not had the chance to see you live
Nevertheless all online presence, it’s quit hard to find further information about you guys. Even your homepage is converse with private information. That’s because you are aware the juggling acts between public interest and protection of your privacy? As long I’m informed, there are further projects from Guitch. Are you all thoroughbred musician and your main incoming based on music or is there any every day office living?
We are not a professional band so we rely on friends to help us with our website, videos and other support that we might need. The band operates on a small budget ! Our English fiddle player Graham belongs to three bands, Guitch and Alain are each in another band but none of our musicians have music as their main job – music is simply a passion and an interest for all of us
In November, you’ll stay as opening act from The MAHONES on stage. The Irish Punk Band from Toronto is actually on World tour. How does it feel, to play before such a well-known Band?
We are very excited about this event which we are organising. We hope that it will be a brilliant night !
After an event like that, you are surely enormously motivated. What are your goals in future, your projects and your ideas?
We’d like to record a new live album but nothing is planned for the moment but hopefully it will be next year. We also plan play to play in new venues, new festivals in Europe, new countries and to share our music with our audience.
Which one of you came up with the idea of using a baby buggy as a kind of mobile sales booth? And how did it happen?
The baby was idea of our manager Shish. The baby’s name BBDOCK and he is a pirate baby and people like to see him at gigs – He is not allowed to drink Guinness ! We also use the baby buggy to carry the merchandise
